Belief

I sometimes feel like I don't believe in much, and then by comparison I find that I'm just right. It is the Lental season in the Catholic faith, and although I do not practice everything I "should," I have always observed lent because of its spirit. I think sacrifice is an important part of the human experience. Whether you're Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or Buddhist, all religions have a basis in human sacrifice. I think it's important because it helps to put things into perspective and allows us the opportunity to reflect. During this lent, I've only allowed myself to eat out once a week. This includes take-out, ordering in, or even getting a latte at Starbucks (the hardest part). When I do eat out that one day, I take full advantage. That's just the thing, I take advantage because I appreciate it so much more those other six days of the week. It's also nice to see that I can break a habit that's hard to break, especially when you're so busy.

Speaking of busy, that's the major reason I haven't blogged in over a month. This job, though I love it, keeps me VERY occupied. I started reading a book today by Sarah Colonna (a Chelsea Handler accomplice) in which she describes a part of my life better than I can. It goes as follows:

"Some days I feel like I’m twenty-one, some days I feel like I’m pushing sixty."
AND
"To the naked eye, I’m completely responsible. I pay my bills not only on time, but early. I return emails and phone calls in a prompt manner. I won’t go near an egg that is one second past its expiration date. I’ve always known what I want to do with my life professionally. But if you ask me what I want in my personal life, forget it."

I tell some people that Monday through Thursday, I'm the most boring person you have ever met. If I'm not working, I'm doing something around the house, or working, or doing something around the house, or working. Pretty dull. I was like this even in Korea. Then on weekends, it's on! Professionally, I've know I've wanted to be a teacher since I was sixteen. And yes, I stress about due dates with EVERYTHING. Story of my life. Classic Virgo.

I am excited to report that a lot of things have changed that have made life a little more interesting. I bought a new car, a PT Cruiser. Although my sister moved out, I will be getting a new roommate who's been a friend forever, Yaya. I'm going to Italy in 3 weeks for an eleven day trip to see some friends from South Korea. Then I'm going to Hawaii in August to see the wedding of my friends Kate & Jesse and do some island hopping to see my family who live there. Some Vegas trips are currently in the works too, good times.

I know I'll be in Italy for part of lent, but I figure my proximity to Catholicism will excuse me like a big fat get-out-of-jail-free card.
